IF THEATRE is an independent theatre ensemble based in Melbourne, Australia. Matt Scholten is the Artistic Director and Creative Producer.

Beginning with 2007's production of Harold Pinter's psychodrama A SLIGHT ACHE If Theatre has produced a series of acclaimed work in Melbourne's independent theatre scene. Directly after A SLIGHT ACHE If Theatre presented THREE SHORT PLAYS BY JACK HIBBERD for La Mama as part of the company's fortieth birthday season and BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS FACTS by Ben Ellis for the Short & Sweet Festival.

In 2008, Matt Scholten began directing the work of Daniel Keene with HALF & HALF, also the debut for The Dog Theatre.

In 2009, If Theatre's most ambitious project to date was THE COVE, a season of eight plays by Daniel Keene (four world premieres, four revivals) which was a critical and commercial success. MR FOOTBALL, a documentary theatre project was created and presented in the 2009 Big West Festival.

In 2010, If Theatre was given two opportunities to create work at Theatreworks with Matt Scholten's adaptation and creative development of CRIME & PUNISHMENT and then the Melbourne premiere of Daniel Keene's THE NIGHTWATCHMAN in December 2010.

Continuing to work with Daniel Keene in 2011, If Theatre will present the world premiere of BOXMAN, a commissioned work for the 2011 Big West Festival.
